Today is a musical kind of day (these days roll around quite often when you’re married to a DJ extraordinaire), so this post is going to be relatively short since I’ve only four words that really need saying…
… MAGNA. CARTA. HOLY. GRAIL.
Jay Z’s 12th studio album is the perfect soundtrack for the headspace that I’m in right now… I’m ‘trying’ to design an immersive exhibition space aimed towards sneaker freaks, urbanites and lovers of all things “street”. Oh, did I mention I’d be exhibiting my own art work too? So it’s looking like I’ll be burrowing away like a little gopher over the course of the next few weeks.
My boys (the creative partners I’ll be introducing you all to very soon) have given me a jolly kick up the arse and I’m now in a position where I can’t back out… eeek! But you know, I’m usually at my best when my back’s against the wall so it’s cool (she says). But back to the amazing Mr Carter…
I’ll be honest and say that I haven’t really listened to a complete Jay Z album since The Blueprint… so I’m talking 2001! Yes, I heard all the singles and the collabs, but to say that I’ve given this whole album my undivided attention since receiving it yesterday, is an understatement.
The critics are analysing this thing to death but my point is, why is that even necessary? The man sold a million copies before the damned thing was released! Jay Hova is a lyrical genius- just to see how these guys work, their thought processes, their sources of inspiration, their experiences… it’s beautiful. We’re all entitled to our opinion, most definitely, but jeez… “Just let [him] be GREAT” already!
